Ultrasonic liposuction can be used to reduce areas of fat in the neck and upper back areas. (The build up of fat in the upper back is commonly referred to as a buffalo hump). Rarely, direct surgical excision is needed.

Neck and Upper Back

Do you have excess fat in your upper back and neck area that you don’t know what to do about it and just can’t seem to get rid of? If you are suffering from a build up of fat in your upper back more commonly known as a “buffalo hump” then ultrasonic liposuction may just be the perfect solution for you.

What is Ultrasonic Liposuction?

Ultrasonic liposuction, UAL, is a type of liposuction that uses ultrasonic sound waves to basically melt fat deposits and force them into a liquid state which makes the fat removal process much simpler and less risky than traditional lipo. It is generally used for fat removal in areas like the neck and upper back that can be hard to treat by other methods and doesn’t require any surgical incision.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Procedure?

Ultrasonic Liposuction is perfect for those who are not satisfied with certain areas of fat deposits like the neck and upper back but want to avoid highly invasive surgical procedures. A good candidate would be someone who is already following a good weight loss plan that includes a healthy diet and a workout routine. It is not a weight loss solution and is not meant for those who are morbidly obese.

What is the Procedure Like?

During ultrasonic liposuction the removal of fat is initiated by using sound waves produced by a generator. The ultrasonic waves are transmitted to the excess fat deposits which cause any fat cells the waves come in contact with to liquefy making them easy to remove from the body through its natural system of removing waste. It is not a painful procedure and many patients actually feel relaxed since it is non-invasive and return to work the same day. Results can be seen after the first treatment and will improve as time goes on and the body removes any remaining liquefied fat deposits.

Are There Any Risks?

Like any cosmetic procedure there are risks associated with having ultrasonic liposuction. Because a large amount of heat is used to melt the fat deposits in your neck and upper back there is a high risk of burns, blistering and scarring. If you choose a surgeon who has a lot of experience working with ultrasonic liposuction then they will know how to avoid any risks like that occurring. Common side effects include swelling, bruising and some discomfort.

What is Recovery Like?

Liposuction recovery time can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks and you should talk to your surgeon who can take your medical history into account and give you a better estimate of how long your recovery may be. They will also be able to tell you what you should expect when going through the healing process.

If you are suffering from excess fat in your neck or upper back know that there is a solution available to you and with a great surgeon performing the procedure you’ll be on your way to a better looking body in no time.
