The Types of Dermal Fillers We Use

Restylane and Juvederm Products

These are hyaluronic acid gel fillers that include longer lasting types, such as Voluma. Certain products are best for certain areas of the face, but they can be used to fill in lines or depressions on the face or plump up the lips. The results can last from several months to two years.

Radiesse

This is a longer lasting injectable filler. Results with this product can be maintained for about a year. Radiesse is also FDA approved for the treatment of facial fat loss due to HIV.

Sculptra

This is an injectable product that can be used to add volume to areas of the face which have suffered fat loss. This fat loss can be due to normal aging or associated with HIV. Sculptra works by causing the body to stimulate tissue build up in the areas where it is placed. Several treatment sessions are needed to get the best result and the effects can last several years.

Bellafill (formerly Artefill)

This is a product which can also be used to stimulate tissue build up and help to improve folds or depressions on the face. The results can last for many years. Several sessions are needed to obtain the best result and a skin test is necessary before treatment to determine if there is any possible allergy to the substance.

Restore Fullness to Your Face with Injectable Fillers

Every day we are exposed to a variety of factors that affect our skin like the sun, wind, and substances in the air. As we get older the face loses fat making facial muscles seem more apparent than before. Injectable fillers are used by many to diminish the appearance of fine lines and help restore volume to the face.

What are Injectable Fillers Used For?

Injectable fillers San Francisco are used to help plump up thin or thinning lips, soften facial lines and wrinkles, as well as improving the appearance of sunken scars. They are not meant to be used on those seeking effects that only surgeries like a brow lift or eye lift can achieve but can help delay when you will start to consider getting a facelift.

How to Determine Which Injectable Filler is Right for You?

There are several types of injectable fillers that differ in multiple ways like how long they will last, their degree of softness, and how they were chemically developed. Depending on where you want to have the injections will determine the degree of softness you need in your filler. If you want to inject your lips you will want a filler that is softer than one you would want to inject in an area like your cheeks. When making your decision Dr. Echavez will help choose the right injectable filler in San Francisco or Seattle locations.

What is Treatment Like?

Before you begin treatment you will meet with your surgeon to evaluate your face and examine the areas of your face that you want to treat. The points of your face to be injected are cleaned and marked then the process of injecting begins. While injecting the filler your surgeon will massage the area and evaluate how it looks then continue with the other areas to be treated. Once done the markings will be washed off and your surgeon will give you instructions on how to take care of your face and give you any medications you may need to take to help with the healing and swelling. There is no downtime after you receive the treatment and treatment can last between 15 minutes to an hour depending on the areas you are having treated.

What are the Potential Risks and Complications?

Many of the fillers used by doctors in the office are easy to use and the results are very predictable and have little to no side effects.  You may experience some mild bruising and/or swelling, redness or numbness that will go away within a couple hours or a few days. Other potential complications include:

  • Bruising, bleeding
  • Skin rash
  • Infection at the injection site
  • Damage to skin

Although good results are always what is expected from this type of procedure there is no guarantee that you will get the exact result you think you should. Most fillers dissolve over time so results are not permanent. In order to maintain the look you achieve with this procedure you will have to consider repeating the process for as long as you want the results you can achieve.
